MakerBot Project
In this project, you will design, create, and test one of the following objects:
Your prototype must abide by the following constraints:
Record all steps of the design process in your Engineering Notebook:
1. Define the Problem
2. Generate Concepts
- A toothpaste squeezer
- A Key Chain
Your prototype must abide by the following constraints:
- Overall dimensions must not exceed 4" wide by 2.5" high by 0.375" deep (all projects)
- Your project must have a function (it must solve a problem)
- Toothpaste Squeezer Project only: Toothpaste Opening must be 2.5" wide by 1/8" high
- Key Chain Project only: Key Chain hole must have a diameter of at least 1/4"
- Must be a solid color (either blue, green, red, or purple)
Record all steps of the design process in your Engineering Notebook:
1. Define the Problem
- Choose which project you will create and record it in your Notebook.
- Describe what problem you will be solving (i.e. "There is always toothpaste left in old toothpaste tubes. The toothpaste squeezer will solve this problem.")
- Create a Gantt Chart in Excel. Take a snapshot and put in on your MakerBot Project Weebly Page
- Create a Design Brief using the file below. Save the file to your computer, then put in on your MakerBot Project Weebly Page using the Document Tool.
2. Generate Concepts
- Independently brainstorm ideas for your project.
- Record at least 3 different solutions in your engineering notebook.
- Click on the following links for ideas. You should not copy these ideas exactly, but they may be used to inspire your original design.
- Complete the design brief before going to step 3

3. Develop a Solution
Create a decision matrix to choose the best idea that you came up with.
Using your brainstorming ideas, develop a final design solution.
Create a Multi-View sketch with dimensions of your prototype in your engineering notebook.
Get your sketch approved by your teacher before going on Inventor.
Create a .ipt for your prototype.
Create a .idw with dimensions
4. Construct and Test Prototype
5. Evaluate Solution
6. Present Solution

4. Construct and Test Prototype
- Follow instructions to submit your .ipt file.
- Test and your solution
5. Evaluate Solution
- Evaluate your test results (pass/fail) in your Engineering Notebook.
6. Present Solution
- Create a "Projects" Page in your Weebly Engineering Portfolio.
- Include pictures of everything you recorded in your Engineering Notebook.
- Include a Snipping of your .ipt
- Include a Snipping of your .idw
- Include a picture of your 3-D Printed prototype in action.
